Meet The Brand: MERANDI

MERANDI Bangkok leather brand campaign, quiet luxury rooted in Japanese Iki and Nordic minimalism

MERANDI: Quiet Luxury at the Intersection of East and North

There is a particular kind of confidence that does not announce itself. It simply exists, unhurried, precise, and entirely self-assured. This is the confidence that MERANDI designs for. Founded by longtime friends and business partners Kate and Grace, the Bangkok-based label was built on a shared belief that the most powerful things in fashion, as in life, are often the quietest.

Drawing from the Japanese philosophy of iki and the Nordic principle of calm minimalism, MERANDI creates leather pieces of extraordinary restraint garments and objects that need nothing added, and from which nothing could be removed.

Two Founders, One Vision

Kate and Grace did not arrive at MERANDI by accident. Their friendship, built over years of shared travels and a mutual eye for cultural nuance, gave the brand its philosophical foundation long before a single piece was designed. What they found, again and again, in the world's most compelling design cultures, was that beauty and restraint are not in opposition, they are the same thing, differently named.

Their backgrounds, distinct but deeply complementary, shaped how that vision became a reality. Kate, a graduate in Managerial Economics from the London School of Economics, brought analytical rigour and structural clarity to the business. Grace, with a background in communications and culinary arts, contributed creative instinct and an understanding of how things are felt, not just seen. Together, they built a brand as balanced as the philosophy it carries.

Iki, Nordic Calm, and the Art of Enough

MERANDI's aesthetic is rooted in two philosophies that, across different continents and cultures, arrived at the same truth. Japanese iki speaks to an effortless, intentional simplicity refinement without effort, elegance without excess. Nordic minimalism holds that less is not merely more, but enough: that a well-considered form requires no embellishment to make its point.

In MERANDI's hands, these philosophies are not references or mood board material. They are the operating principles behind every design decision. Simple forms. Precise construction. Pieces that stand effortlessly on their own, requiring no context, no explanation, and no noise around them.

Each piece is crafted in the brand's Bangkok atelier using LWG-certified Italian calf leather, a material chosen for both its enduring quality and its responsible sourcing credentials. In a brand built on intention, the choice of material is as considered as the design itself.

Craft as a Living Conversation

Beyond the core collection, MERANDI extends its values into something larger through Project MERANDI Craft an initiative that brings the brand into direct collaboration with local artisans across Thailand. Working with regional materials and traditional techniques, the project exists not as a side venture, but as a natural expression of the brand's deepest convictions: that craft deserves to be honoured, that local knowledge has global value, and that contemporary design is richer when it is in genuine dialogue with the hands and histories around it.

Through Project MERANDI Craft, Thai craftsmanship is not preserved as an artefact, it is brought forward, given new form, and introduced to those who understand what it means to wear something made with true care.

Rooted in philosophy, shaped by two remarkable founders, and crafted with precision in Bangkok, MERANDI is quiet luxury in its most considered form.
